This Sunday Lavenham Church will celebrate our Patronal Festival, the Feast of St Peter and St Paul.
The Feast of Saints Peter and Paul is a liturgical feast in honour of the martyrdom in Rome of the apostles Saint Peter and Saint Paul. In England and Wales it is a “holy day of obligation”. On Sundays and other holy days of obligation, the faithful are obliged to participate in the Mass. Moreover they are to abstain from those works and affairs which hinder the worship to be rendered to God, the joy proper to the Lord’s day, or the suitable relaxation of mind and body. All the more so, then, as it is our Patronal Festival.
St Peter and St Paul can be found above the south porch of Lavenham Church, welcoming us to worship. I understand these very friendly looking saints were carved by Eric Winters and installed during a restoration in 1965 as a gift from the Friends of Lavenham Church.
